My eyes

I never needed glasses.

I was the only one in my family growing up who didn’t have some kind of visual impairment, and I thought it was pretty great.

I figured the glasses were coming—but they never did. I had dodged that bullet.

HOORAY!

So a few years ago, I was surprised when reading became difficult. My eyes wouldn’t focus like before. My kids would shove a screen in front of my face, wanting me to read something or watch something, and I couldn’t do it…at least not before I had moved the screen back (and forth, back and forth—c’mon eyes!)

Sigh.

One day I was walking through Costco, and I passed a big section of reading glasses. I hesitated, then picked the lowest magnification box, and hustled out.

I’d only wear them when ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

A few months passed, and I listened to a podcast where a woman talked about the power of our minds. She said her eyes were getting bad, but instead of wearing reading glasses she would tell herself they were NOT bad. She could see perfectly. After a year, she claimed her eyesight had actually IMPROVED!

It was worth a shot, I figured.

Well.

I’m an idiot. And that woman on the podcast is crazy. And possibly a liar.

My eyes didn’t improve. I told myself how I didn’t need glasses and my eyes could see perfectly every. single. day. You know what happened? Besides wasting my time and energy? Nothing. Nada. My eyes were still old and I still had a hard time reading. 🙄

Last month, I went to see the optometrist. My eyes are still 20/20, but she said I needed reading glasses. I told her about the podcast and the woman, and after she finished laughing (ahem), she agreed that what I had heard was a pile of…poop.

This week, I went back to Costco. My pride disappeared. I actually got the correct magnification, and I’ve been happily wearing my glasses every time I need them.

It’s refreshing.

I can see again!❤️❤️❤️

It feels like putting on a pair of wide leg jeans (a Godsend) after too many years of those horrible skinny jeans (the worse style in the world)—hallelujah!

I love to see. I love to read. And with my glasses, I get to do BOTH!

Don’t be foolish like me. Don’t take advice from random liars on podcasts, and if you can’t read the fine print anymore, get yourself some reading glasses! And then wear them. 😊
